Updates for Governing Bodies

Workforce Development Update October 2011
Sports coach UK (scUK) has developed inspirational learning programmes for the coach developer workforce: tutors, assessors and internal quality assurers (internal verifiers). These programmes are designed to meet the expectations of both the coaching and lifelong learning sectors.

Following the recent qualification reforms sports coach UK have developed three new training programmes, under the ‘Coach Developer’ banner, they include:

  • sports coach UK Tutor Training
  • sports coach UK Assessor Training
  • sports coach UK Internal Quality Assurance Training

All the above Coach Developer programmes are available through Coachwise who are now ready to deliver the training and where required, the associated qualifications, on behalf of sports coach UK. The Coach Developer programme is available predominantly to service the needs of Governing Bodies and County Sports Partnerships (England based).

For further information on each of the new qualifications, please visit the sports coach UK web site.

"Managing Coaches Effectively"
The "Managing Coaches Effectively" resource has been piloted in England through Coaching Development Managers, following demand identified through the Coaching System Support Networks.

The "Managing Coaches Effectively" resource incorporates key elements of the Sport Wales Coaching & Volunteering strategy for 2010-16. Specifically focussing on recruitment, training, deployment/management, and retention, with an overall focus on coach care.

The Welsh Sports Association, Sport Wales, and sports coach UK are keen to extend the pilot into Wales, and will therefore be holding a pilot session in the near future, where NGB representatives can attend, in order to gain feedback and to assess the appropriateness of the resource for sports, local authorities, and other organisations in Wales.
