Welcome to the November 2008 issue of the WSA e-newsletter. The new training programme for 2009 has now been published and is available on the WSA website. There are also new additions to the guidance and governance section of the website where you'll find useful information regarding the points based system for managed migration. The areas affecting sport are being implemented on 27th November 2008.

New NGB Training Programmes for 2009
|
The new programmes for January - June 2009 have now been published, with courses available in North and South Wales. Please note that bookings for the January courses will need to be made before 12th December as the WSA office will be closed between 19th December and 12th January. To view the programmes click here

New 'Points Based Migration System' Section Added to WSA Website
|
A new section on the Points Based Migration System has been added to the Guidance and Governance area of the WSA website. If you or your clubs/ affiliates want to offer employment, either temporarily or permanently, to someone from outside the EU or are hosting an event with competitors and support staff from outside the EU this will affect you. The system is being implemented on 27th November 2008. For more information click here

Applications for Overseas Grants Now Open
|
Applications are now open to Welsh members of expeditions who want to push the boundaries of their sport to apply for the Welsh Sports Association’s overseas expedition grant. click here

More Media Coverage for Womens Sport

A new online sport magazine has been launched by Sportsister.com. The mission of the magazine is to present sport in an attractive and female friendly way, giving female sports stars the coverage they deserve as well as using their success to inspire others. More information can be found here

Company Law and Other Regulation Changes
|
Some important provisions of the Companies Act 2006 were implemented on 1 October 2008, including changes to the general duties of directors in respect of conflicts of interest. More details here

Vale of Glamorgan Sports Personality of the Year Event

The Vale of Glamorgan District Sports Council (in conjunction with the Vale Council) are inviting nominations for the Vale of Glamorgan Sports Personality of the Year awards 2008. The closing date is 19th December 2008. More details here

Sports Call for Stronger 2012 Legacy
|
Leaders of Olympic sports in the UK have called on the government to improve London 2012's sporting legacy. The governing bodies of various sports say more needs to be done to increase participation and entice people to take up sports around the Games. More information here

Sam Smith Travel Take Over Travel City
|
Travel City International, who has worked closely with the WSA in the past, has been forced to close its business following the collapse of the XL Leisure Group. Sam Smith Travel Ltd, which is a long established Travel Agency in South Wales, has now taken over the Travel City International business and they have launched Strachan Sports Travel and Strachan GroupTravel.
