The Equality Standard for Sport
The Sports Council for Wales (SCW) is currently working with Sports Structures to provide support for NGBs in achieving the Equality Standard for Sport.
NGBs should be aware of their membership breakdown, and should be able to identify areas for improvement in relation to promotion and provision of equality of opportunity. NGBs should also ensure that they are compliant with equality legislation and should be aware of future Government Policy in relation to Equality and Diversity. The Equality Standard for Sport is a framework for assisting sports organisations to widen access and reduce inequalities in sport and physical activity from under representative individuals, groups and communities especially women and girls, ethnic minority groups and disabled people. It is based around two broad themes: developing your organisation and developing your services and four levels of achievement: Foundation, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced.
For further information please visit the Equality Standard Website: www.equalitystandard.org.
Support for NGBs
Currently SCW has an agreement to Sport Structures to provide NGBs with the following support:
- An initial Equality Standard awareness workshop
Quarterly meetings with other NGBs working towards the same level.
- One to one meetings
Advice and support from Sport Structures through email and via telephone.
- Templates and tools
Sports Structures will be acting as the Equality Standard Advisor (ESA) for the Welsh NGBs involved. To sustain this and to enable further roll out, during the next year Welsh ESA’s will be trained and will shadow Sport Structures.
If you wish to take advantage of this support, please contact: mari-wyn.elias-Jones@scw.org.uk. Numbers are limited, so places will be granted on a first come, first served basis.
