YOUR CHANCE TO NOMINATE AND REWARD COMMUNITY SPORTS CHAMPIONS

Kimmo Muttonen on 22/07/2005

The South Wales Echo Community Champion Awards were devised in 2003 to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by individuals to life in local communities throughout South Wales. Award categories include Young Community Champion, Community Education Champion and Community Sports Champion.

The 2004 awards ceremony was a resounding success. This was due to the quality of entrants, support from sponsors, the contribution made by our presenters and coverage in the South Wales Echo itself.

Paralympic swimmer David Roberts was the Echo’s Community Sports Champion last year and the Welsh Sports Association wants to help find someone who can follow in his strokes. The 24-year-old, of Llantwit Fardre, encourages others in sport and it was his dedication that earned him last year’s title.

The Community Sports Champion Award is awarded to an individual who can evidence either a change in local attitudes or perception through sporting activities benefiting a whole community or a specific group of people or activities designed to benefit individuals within the community. The winner will need to evidence how important their support, guidance and commitment to individuals and the activities they produce have improved their local community.

You’ve got plenty of time to make your nominations for your Community Sports Champion award, plus any in the other seven categories.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 1st August 2005.

Application forms are available from the South Wales Echo by calling the Events Team on 02920 583828.
