Ex Dragons Rugby Trust and Cardiff RFC stalwart Ceri Thomas joins WSA

Ceri Thomas, formerly of the Dragons Rugby Trust and Cardiff RFC three-quarter has joined the Welsh Sports Association (WSA) as its Welsh Language Development Officer.
His new role will see him co-ordinating the activities of key partner organisations to raise the profile and expand opportunities for sports coaching through the medium of Welsh and to enhance the use of the Welsh language in the core work of the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport in Wales.
Thomas will be undertaking a comprehensive audit of the current situation regarding the use of Welsh in sports provision across Wales in a range of targeted sports, as well as implementing a country wide coach/tutor education programme for Welsh language coaches/tutors in relevant sports in co-operation with NGBs.
Similarly his role will identify the needs for and develop suitable Welsh language coaching manuals/materials and assist the NGBs to embrace the Sports Council for Wales’ ‘mainstreaming’ principles for use of the Welsh language as part of their ‘modernisation’ process.
Furthermore Ceri will be developing partnerships with current Welsh medium providers and facilitating partnerships between NGBs and Welsh medium providers, as well as assisting NGBs to operate bilingually.
