Swim Wales announces coaching bursaries

Kimmo Muttonen on 09/06/2006

The Swim Wales education and training and department has announced that 10 students from Welsh universities are to receive a new bursary.

The students have been awarded the bursary to help them gain Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) coach education qualifications and gain coaching experience by working with Swim Wales.

The bursary is part of Swim Wales' strategy to develop a network of swimming teachers and coaches across the country.

Six students from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC), three from University of Wales Swansea and one from the University of Wales Bangor were successful.

Hanna Guise of Swim Wales said: "It's a very exciting time for coach education and development in the UK, with the introduction of UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate).

"We hope to aid the development and future of Welsh swimming and coaches in Wales through this bursary."
