Grant Aid For Overseas Expeditions

The Sports Council for Wales has for many years provided grant aid to Welsh members of ground-breaking overseas expeditions. A wide range of Outdoor Pursuits have benefited from this unique stream of funding, including mountaineering, caving, cave diving, canoeing and paragliding.

Whilst in the past this scheme has been directly administered by the Sports Council for Wales, applications have traditionally been evaluated by a panel of representatives from the Outdoor Pursuits Group of the Welsh Sports Association and the appropriate Welsh Governing Bodies, assisted by the Senior Active Communities Officer at SCW.

Following internal changes at SCW, the Outdoor Pursuits Group of the Welsh Sports Association is delighted to announce that it has been invited to take over the administration of Overseas Expeditions Support Funding from 2008/9 onwards.

As grants for 2007/8 have already been awarded, we have a little time in hand to review the operation of this important stream of funding, and arrange an orderly handover of its administration. Further information and application deadlines will be made available shortly.

We would however like to take this opportunity to thank the many SCW officers who have helped this scheme develop and flourish over the years, and the Governing Bodies of Outdoor pursuits for their continued support.
