The Welsh version of the 2012 Education programme run by the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to engage children and young people in Wales has been launched by the Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths.
The website www.london2012.com/getset is targeted at 3 – 19 year olds and aims to bring schools and colleges together to highlight projects they have been involved in which reflect the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Learning resources are flexible and include games, factsheets, films and news articles.
In Wales around 80 schools have signed up to ‘Get Set’ and the website has been translated into Welsh.
Launching the website at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant in Maesteg, Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths said:
"I am pleased to be launching this website in Wales which I am sure will encourage many children and young people to take part in events and projects which reflect the Olympic and Paralympic values such as friendship, respect and determination.
The Olympics and Paralympics can be hugely motivating to young people and inspire them to reach their goals".
London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games CEO Paul Deighton said:
"The London 2012 Games are Everyone’s Games and we are pleased to offer this once in a lifetime learning opportunity to Welsh speaking pupils.
Schools and colleges using ‘Get Set’ can now start applying to join the Get Set network and receive the London 2012 education logo from September onwards in recognition of their work.
We have invited young people aged 16-21 design the graphic for the London 2012 education logo and we hope to receive some fantastic entries from Wales".
