Paul Dancey on 01/08/2011

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) recently published its first annual report since taking over from UK Sport as the National Anti-Doping Organisation for the UK.

The report provides an overview of UKAD's role and achievements over the past 12 months

In his introduction, Chief Executive Andy Parkinson, makes it clear that UKAD "is not just a drug
testing agency but an intelligence-led organisation with a strong focus on supporting and leading the fight against doping in sport".

He also reports that UKAD has made further headway in listening to the all-important views of athletes through the introduction of the Athlete Committee. This group allows the organisation to understand and meet the needs of athletes more effectively.

During the period covered by the report, 24 cases were brought against athletes for anti-doping rule violations, with 35% of those tests conducted targeted.

The full report is available for download on the UKAD web site.
