Work gets underway at Barry Islands new adizone

Paul Dancey on 18/11/2011

Work commenced earlier this month on the Vale of Glamorgan Council's new adiZone multi-sports facility on Barry Island. The project will cost over £200,000, with Barry Regeneration Funding contributing around £160,000 towards that cost.

Weather permitting, the Council hope the majority of the work can be completed by Christmas and equipment installed early in the new year.

When completed, the centre will provide facilities for basketball, football and tennis, and will also boast a climbing wall, freestyle area and an outdoor gym.

A Council spokesperson said: "Barry Island adiZone - which is to make use of a site that has been derelict since the 1980s - will enable local communities to take part in activities ranging from dance, basketball and football to gym."
