Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Sports Awards

International sport is about to descend on Great Britain with London 2012 fast approaching. Every one of these international sports stars started their sporting journey in grassroots, local opportunities.

Sport is full of amazing people who work tirelessly, going out of their way to make a difference and provide these opportunities.


The Community Sports Awards, organized by Sport Rhondda Cynon Taf, recognize and reward the army of individuals who make an exceptional and essential contribution in keeping our sports clubs and organizations active, enabling them to go from strength to strength.

There are many people who work behind the scenes, from sports coaches to private investors, from those who cut the grass to those who organize the fixtures. Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Sports awards exist to acknowledge the valuable contribution they all make to community sport.

Nominations are invited in the following categories:

Community Sport Club and School Partnership
This award is for a community club that creates a positive link and partnership with its local schools to attract new and support existing members. This could be delivering sessions after school, sharing facilities, hosting festivals, provide exit routes, working with junior sport (Dragon Sport) and / or 5x60 etc.

Community Innovation Project
This award is for community groups and sport clubs that have developed new sport or active recreation projects for the benefit of all. This could be attracting new groups to get active, making a sport club inclusive, developing a sporting activity to attract local residents to use the club, plus lots more.

Sport Business Award
This award will recognize and reward those businesses that set up and grow in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area such as fitness organization, dance schools, boxing club, private gyms etc.

Young Person’s Contribution to Sport
This award is for a young person up to and including school Year 11, who has volunteered their time and made a significant contribution to the development of sport in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This doesn’t only have to be in a coaching capacity, it can be helping with the administration, developing a website, helping with marketing, ordering the team kit etc.

Student Contribution to Sport
This award is for an individual in higher or further education (school Year 12 and above), who has
volunteered their time and made a significant contribution to the development of sport in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This doesn’t only have to be in a coaching capacity, it can be helping with the administration, developing a website, helping with marketing, ordering the team kit etc.

Club Administrator
This award is for those individuals that work tirelessly behind the scenes to do those jobs that no one sees. Maybe they book the fixtures, register all the players, attend the meetings, sort out the finances, without this person the club just wouldn’t be able to run!!

Coach of the Year
This award is for a community, club or school based coach who has made significant impact or contribution to the development of sports participants in their chosen sport

Unsung Hero
This award is for a volunteer that gives invaluable time and effort to community sport in Rhondda Cynon Taf from cutting the grass, to making the tea and coffee or taking the children to the game. These people really do make a difference.
