Unfair dismissal rules may change

Paul Dancey on 13/02/2012

Currently workers have to have been employed for 1 year before they have the right not to be unfairly dismissed.

The government has announced that with effect from 1 April 2012 they plan to change this period to 2 years. The idea is to encourage employers to take on more workers.

It is anticipated the number of tribunal claims will drop as a consequence. Understandably trade unions are up in arms and will be lobbying against the change.
