Stephen Morris included in GB Team for INAS World Indoor Athletics Championships

The UK Sports Association for People with Learning Disability (UKSA), has announced that Stephen Morris from Cardiff has been included in the Team representing Great Britain at the 7th INAS World Indoor Athletics Championships in Manchester from 14th – 18th March 2012.

Stephen Morris, who competes for only the 2nd time internationally, is currently supported by the Disability Sport Wales Academy.


Morris said: "I am excited about being selected to the Great Britain Team and am looking to get personal best times at the Championships".

Former British, Commonwealth and European multi medal winning athlete Verona Elder MBE has again been appointed Team Manager, and the team announced includes five new athletes, all making their international debut at the first major international learning disability Championships to be held in the UK since 2008. Newcomers, Aidan Turnbull (Washington, Tyne and Wear), Stephanie Moore (Blaydon on Tyne, Newcastle), Chloe Knight (Ashton Under Lyne, Lancs), Martina Barber (Stevenage, Hertfordshire), Marcel Hodge (Syston, Leicestershire) and Robert Ferrol (Carmyle, Glasgow) will compete alongside athletes from at least 12 nations all hoping to make their mark on the world’s sporting stage.

Tracey McCillen, CEO, UK Sports Association says "With the London 2012 Paralympic Games on the horizon, this is a fantastic opportunity for athletes to showcase British talent and to do it on home soil is an added bonus! My thanks go to the Local Organizing Committee, led by Paul Burns, to our England member, Mencap Sport in taking on the challenge of hosting another INAS event, to Manchester City Council and all the volunteers, and supporters that are making this possible. I am confident the British Team will put in some strong performances and I hope that the British public will come out in force to see them in action and enjoy the excitement that competitive Championships at this level can offer".

There is free admission for spectators to the Championships, hosted in Sport City, Manchester with the main events being scheduled for 16th and 17th March.
