New Vacancy: High Performance Manager (Welsh Yachting Association)

The Welsh Yachting Association (WYA) is seeking to appoint a new High Performance Manager to manage the Welsh national performance programme.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be primarily responsible for developing and delivering the WYA's Youth Academy(U19) and Welsh National Junior Squad(U16) annual training and competition strategies, to nurture talented youth and junior sailors in conjunction with a team of national and regional performance coaches.


You will be expected to maintain regular liaison with World Class Performance Programme staff within the GBR programme that is crucial to deliver a coordinated national strategy for sailor development, and thereby optimise the progression of Welsh sailors into the GBR National Squad programmes.

You will be locally responsible for overseeing the development of Youth Academy & national squad members; you will work with young sailors and their parents, and co-ordinate their training. You will run the RYA’s Champion Club, Coach Development and Squad Programmes that are central to increasing youth & junior racing participation. You will also be responsible for running the Welsh Youth & Junior and Welsh Zone Championships.
You should have excellent communication skills and the capacity to plan and manage an annual work programme, that incorporates a number of programmes; skills, and training/competition plans for young sailors and their coaches. The successful applicant will have a technical understanding of club development and the recognised junior and youth classes and have a proven track record in the leadership and management of diverse groups of people in a co-operative way.

Applicants are expected to have a current RYA Racing Coach Level 2 coaching qualification, RYA PB2 certificate and an enhanced CRB disclosure.

The post is based at the WYA’s HQ at Plas Menai National Watersports Centre and involves significant travel and work outside office hours for which time off in lieu is given. Due to the wide range of partnerships linked to this position the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable.
