Welsh Commonwealth Games silver medallist Frankie Jones (pictured right, courtesy Steve Pope) has won her sixth British rhythmic gymnastics title in style at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent. Frankie scored an impressive 99.125 points to take the gold from first year senior Laura Halford (89.200) with Frankie’s Birmingham club-mate Mimi Cesar in bronze (87.875).
Frankie was top scorer with every piece of apparatus, hoop (24.175), ball (25.275), clubs (24.375) and ribbon (25.300).
After finishing as the top placed British gymnast at the 2011 World Championship Frankie is set to be named as the individual rhythmic gymnast for TeamGB at the official team announcement on July 4th.
Having once again dominated the British Championships she will go to the Games high on confidence.
Frankie Jones said: "I'm really happy with my performance over the weekend and to once again be named British championships is fantastic. I've put a lot of hard training in and its great to see it paying off, my routines were very solid and I'm gaining confidence all the time. The next event for me is the Olympic Games which is an unbelievable thought; I can't wait to get my name officially confirmed on Wednesday.
I can't even imagine what it is going to be like at the Games, the whole atmosphere is going to be crazy for the Team GB athletes and the whole of Britain is going to be so excited."
Frankie Jones, who took her Commonwealth Games silver medal in the hoop discipline at Delhi in 2010, lives in Northampton, trains in Birmingham but competes for Wales through her father Colin's roots in Pontypool, where he still has family.
