Ben's Scottish success boosts championship bid

Mid Wales racing driver Ben Power has raced up the UK Legends Car Championship table after a superb performance at a televised event in Scotland.
Power, aged 22, from Guilsfield, near Welshpool, was third overall on the first day's racing at Knockhill and second the next day. His consistency – a top-five finish in all but one of the six races over the weekend – has moved him up to third in the championship.
The meeting, backed by Power's main sponsor, Oswestry-based aluminium guttering company Guttercrest, will be shown on Motors TV next month.
In one of the Saturday races, he also recorded the fastest lap.
After recent successes at the Anglesey circuit – finishing second overall – Power is enjoying his most successful season since joining Legends Cars in 2009.
"The championship gets tougher every year, and we didn't get off to the greatest start, but things have really clicked lately," said Power, a former rally-cross champion.
"Consistency is really the key – you’ve got to keep bagging the points, race after race. If we can keep this up, the second half of the season is going to be very interesting!"
The UK Legends series, which takes in tracks in England, Wales and Scotland, features top drivers from around the UK and the continent.
Legends racing originated on the US oval tracks, and the cars have an American look, being 5/8-scale replicas of classic US models. Guttercrest Racing runs a Ford Coupe 1937 replica, with a 1250cc Yamaha motorcycle engine.
With identical cars and the fastest drivers having to start at the back of the grid, there is said to be more overtaking in a single Legends race than in a whole season of Formula 1.
The Knockhill races are due to be shown on Motors TV on August 23 at 5.55pm.
