British Volunteer Awards

Paul Dancey on 24/08/2012

The Sunday Telegraph and Waitrose have launched the British Volunteer Awards to celebrate the vital role played in society by those who give their time and energy for free, as was so clearly demonstrated by the 70,000 cheerful, smiling volunteers who made such a strong impression at the recent London games.

Britain has a wonderful network of volunteers, but they rarely get the public recognition they deserve. With these awards the Sunday Telegraph and Waitrose aim to reward them and raise awareness of the good work volunteers do already.

They are now asking the public to nominate individuals who have really made a difference to their community.

Perhaps someone who helps run the local sports club, or team. Perhaps an individual who spends their spare time helping vulnerable children, or making a huge difference to the lives of the elderly. Or someone works as a volunteer in a conservation or heritage organization.

Individuals nominated must be over the age of 18, and the volunteer work must be done in Britain. There will be 20 winners in all, each receiving £500 – courtesy of Waitrose – for their voluntary organization.

To nominate someone, please send your name, address and telephone number the name of the person you wish to nominate along with a short explanation outlining the difference they have made (up to 200 words) to:
The Sunday Telegraph/Waitrose British Volunteer Awards
Telegraph Media Group
PO Box 609
111 Buckingham Palace Road
London
SW1W 0XN

Or you can send your nomination by email to volunteerawards@telegraph.co.uk

Closing date for nominations: Tuesday 30th October 2012.
