Tony Smith, Brian Dreyer and Derek Jones were crowned Welsh Triples champions after winning their title at the 34th Wenvoe Welsh Open in a busy August for Petanque players throughout the Principality.
Fourteen teams entered the tournament and the three players - two from the Monkstone Club, Roath, Cardiff, and one from The Barn Club in Llantrisant - won a hard-fought final of the main competition that saw them beat Tony Scullion, Dave Cannan and Mike Jacques, from the home Wenvoe Club, by 13-11.
They weren't the only winners of the day as the Plate competition went to a Wenvoe team of Gloria Davies, Caroline Bevan and Neil Gee.
They managed to beat Graham Attfield, Brian Minto and Alison Minto, from the Barn Petanque Club, by three points.
Meanwhile, earlier in the month, 16 doubles teams from South East Wales, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Bath and Bristol competed in the annual Brecon Pairs at Brecon RFC
The teams were divided into four pools of four sides during the morning with the top two sides from each group qualifying to the main competition, another round-robin of groups, while the bottom two teams played in the Plate event.
Those top eight teams in those groups went into two more pools of four with the winner from each pool competing in the final.
That final was between Karen Macleod and Bob Pugh, from the Wenvoe Club, and Graham Attfield and Tony Smith from The Barn Club and the Monkstone Club, respectively.
After a tight game where both sides took the lead and had the opportunity of winning; MacLeod and Pugh came out on top by 13-9.
The Plate final was between Paul Mayfield (Caerleon RFC Club) and Gareth Smart (Brecon RFC Club), Chris Spray and Clive de Silva, from the Compton Inn Club, with Spray and de Silva winning.
